12 Feb 2025
Whether you're exploring different parts of Australia or heading overseas, ensuring you have access to your prescriptions is essential for your health and peace of mind.
Our Sage Telehealth offers convenient access to prescriptions while you're travelling in Australia. However, if you're travelling internationally, you'll need to explore alternative options. Here’s what you need to know to ensure you don’t get caught without your essential medications.
Getting a Prescription While Travelling in Australia
If you're travelling within Australia and realise you need a prescription, Our Sage Telehealth can provide a simple and affordable solution. Whether you forgot to pack your medication or need a repeat, our Australian-registered Health Care Practioners can issue a prescription via e-script to your phone to get filled at your closest pharmacy.
How It Works:
Repeat Prescriptions: Available for just $19, perfect if you need a refill of a medication you’re already taking.
New Prescriptions: If you require a prescription for a new condition, Our Sage offers consultations for $45.
Requirements: To access Our Sage while travelling in Australia, you must have an Australian phone number and an Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI). This ensures we can securely issue your prescription.
You can book a telehealth consultation with Our Sage from anywhere in Australia and have your prescription sent to your phone for local pharmacy for pickup.
What About When You’re Travelling Overseas?
If you’re travelling internationally, you won’t be able to access Our Sage Telehealth for prescriptions. However, there are steps you can take to ensure you have the necessary medications while abroad.
Before You Travel:
Plan Ahead: If you know you’ll need medications while overseas, use Our Sage before you leave to get any necessary repeat prescriptions. This ensures you have enough supply for your trip.
Check Medication Regulations: Some medications available in Australia may be restricted or require special approval in certain countries. Research the regulations of your destination and carry a doctor’s letter if necessary.
Travel With Documentation: Carry a copy of your prescription and a letter from your GP outlining your medical condition and the necessity of your medication, especially for controlled substances.
If You Need a Prescription While Overseas:
Visit a Local Doctor: In most countries, you’ll need to see a local doctor to obtain a prescription. Many hotels and embassies can help direct you to medical services.
Check Pharmacy Regulations: Some over-the-counter medications in Australia may require a prescription overseas. Pharmacies in different countries have varying rules, so be sure to check local guidelines.
Contact Travel Insurance Providers: If you experience a medical emergency and need medication, your travel insurance may assist with finding healthcare services abroad.
If you’re preparing for a trip, don’t leave your medication needs until the last minute. Use Our Sage Telehealth before you travel to get your repeat prescriptions sorted so you can focus on enjoying your holiday.
